Paint Party!

Yesterday my painting pal Jake and I got together for some of our usual madness. Once we hit some stores for the necessary supplies we began to whip through various projects in typical fashion for our painting jams. I decided to work on some in depth projects I've been planning for some upcoming events and get my Diretroll Mauler rolling. Jake began by working on a diorama of some Ghouls from Mantic Games, sculpting candles, and ending on an Ork Nob. We fiddled away for hours and the amount of words I could write are best left off. Instead I'd rather show you the pictures.

This weeks schedule has me working on a a 6 man unit of Ravenguard Assault marines, a Warhound Titan interior, and a certain special character conversion. I've also ordered a copy of Lord Draigo in order to complete a commission. I shudder to think of the possibilities when a models casting standard has been dropped to fine in place of leading the industry.

Grissel Bloodsong, For the Kriel!

Another addition to my Trollbloods force. A very intricate sculpt, I was very impressed by Privateer Press on this one. The quality of their models is really starting to rise lately.

Check her out on Coolminiornot here:

It's hard to pick my next addition for the Trolls. I'm thinking I'll paint the Impaler and then I'll have Grissel's battlegroup.

Chaos Theory

Lately it's been a blur of modelling, painting, and airbrushing. I've been trying to plan a post on something more specific but at this moment I'm going in too many directions at once. It's not a bad thing, as the title suggests, something will come out of this.

Here's a  rundown of what I've been up to this week.

First off I've bee commissioned to paint a Warhound Titan! Again! I've been working on it slowly over the last few days and finally arrived at a point where I felt comfortable sharing my progress.

Here it is while I was masking off the armor plates.

An hour of masking later I started to apply the metallics.

The picture above is of it's present state. Now it's down to many many hours of brushwork. I also have to get working on the base.

But that's not all, I've also made time to get the bulk of my unpainted Trollbloods based.

The only piece left is my Mauler. The plan is to base him up tomorrow and play a few games that night.

Wait, there's more. This strange design of nature is for Armorcast, rough photo at the moment. He's not quite complete in this picture.

While all this was going on I also made some progress on a project for the most patient person I know. I'm keeping this models identity secret for now as he's very far from where I want him to be. I can however show you the framework of his base ;)

That's where I'm at so far and the week isn't over yet. Onwards and Upwards my friends!

P.S. I managed to finish off my Epic Grissel Bloodsong. She'll be coming around the mountain some time tomorrow.

Black Templars

First off, sorry. I was unable to post a blog yesterday and disrupted my 7 day streak. I had to record the commentary track for Dead Weight, a movie I was in recently. But if we stretch our imaginations, which I know you can do, we can pretend it's still saturday :)

Today I rolled out Chaplain Grimaldus and changed the Terminators helmets to the proper color.

They're off to the races alongside a Sanguinary Priest.

Apologies once again for falling short on my promise, I didn't anticipate doing commentary for an hour and a half movie would consume 12 hours of that day. Excuses, excuses, I know. Enjoy the following early morning coffee and modelling photo.

Blogging All Week Day 6! Tabletop Quality Black Templars

Even though it was personal project friday I still allow my self to work on whatever I choose, even if that is not a personal project. I've made a mockery of my own system... I was motivated to finish the Black Templars and sank another 3 hours into them to do just that.

I'll be throwing them up on E-bay this Sunday night ;)

My blister of Troll Whelps hung from my light the whole time and I felt I had neglected them. I had to at least put together one of them. Great models, I can't wait to get the rest together.

I got kind of a late start today and am still motivated to do some painting yet tonight. I think I'll pour a little more time into Grissel...Now ye sit back and enjoy the tale of the world's greatest DM.

Blogging All Week Day 5! Kor'sarro Khan complete

Here is the Khan from last night. All done and I had time to go see some crappy pop punk bands...good guys though.

He'll be popping up on Coolmini sometime tomorrow. Blogging every day is starting to show haha. Tonight's agenda has me working on some Black Templars. With their codex around the bend now is probably a good time to start painting some for E-bay. The Terminators were supplied by Kevin the Bits Pimp (http://myworld.ebay.com/teachermickeymouse/?_trksid=p4340.l2559) Coincidentally Brother John, having no need for the model, brought me Chaplain Grimaldus earlier this week. Thanks Bro!

I'll push away on these guys tonight and see where they end up. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's painting, I finally am caught up to a good speed with my commissions and personal project Friday's can resume. That should give me a chance to finish off Grissel Bloodsong and finish the basing on my Fennblades...Time will tell :)

I'm at a loss for good documentaries at the moment...However here's a preview for a movie that can relate to the genre.

Blogging All Week Day 4! Finished White Scars

My goal for today was to finish the big Khan. There is also a band staying at my house tonight and distraction floated all around me. I packed up and rolled my already displaced table into my room and closed the door.

Mission accomplished, the Khan is done a day later than I wanted him...At this point I haven't brought him to the light box but enjoy this preview.

As promised yesterday I completed photographing the Librarian.

Tomorrow's post will have pictures of the finished Khan ;)

For your enjoyment here is another preview for an intriguing doncumentary.

Blogging All Week Day 3! Major Tom Paint Party

After talking for a little while at a tournament, a  mutual appreciation/obsession with painting between Tom and I came to the surface. He's newer to the miniature thing having jumped back in recently and wanted some pointers on painting.

Tonight we got together along with Brother John, and I attempted to explain the fine details of paint consistency, light sourcing, and chasing your dreams.

The goal was to demonstrate a basic blending technique. I laid out 7 colors, three night goblins, and away we went on the spear heads.

Starting from the left the order is Tom, John, and me. I'd like to add that I didn't use all the colors and used my model only for demonstrating...

Tom was also looking for some pointers on models he had already painted and had some of his Dark Eldar army in tow.

I liked Tom's scheme, especially his wracks and trueborn. He has a great start on these models and I explained that a little edge highlighting would help bump up the contrast.

As I promised yesterday I'd have a picture of the White Scars Librarian all complete. Well here he is but you'll have to wait until tomorrow for the money shots.

So as the momentum picks up I'm proud to announce tonight's theatrical preview...Enjoy!

Blogging All Week Day 2

I'd like to get things rolling for the week's blogging by kicking it off with a painted mini. I was able to paint this guy up in about 2 hours. The size and simplicity makes for a nice break model you can paint up quickly.

As usual he's up on Coolminiornot:

My painting for today has been aimed at the White Scars Librarian. At the moment he's pretty close to being finished and I should have him up on tomorrow's post. Here are some early impressions.

Tomorrow should see another finished model but until then enjoy this preview. I've been watching many documentaries lately while I'm painting. This one takes a good look at how an undergound style of music was started and what became of the movement.

Motorcycle Madness!

After a short break from painting due to playing some shows over the weekend I was able to resume work on the White Scars.

The Khan isn't ready to be attached to his bike yet but I'm almost finished with the basic parts of the bike. I'm going to hold off on attaching him until I add some freehanding.

I finally got the Librarian's bike to level where I was comfortable attaching him. The next couple steps are detail the Librarian and then add the characteristic White Scars imagery.

Look out World. Tomorrow begins another string of productivity. I haven't done it in a while and I don't have any shows in the immediate future. I'll be blogging every day this week :)

So until tomorrow's update, Enjoy the pure awesomeness of Cathedral.

Table Notes

I began to lay out the parts for some White Scars the other night and they began to assemble themselves..

Here are the resources at my disposal.

I've started the slow process of painting another addition to my Trollsbloods force. Happily I might add :) If you can't appreciate thick women and thicker women I feel sorry for you.

Hey who's that? Why it's a praetorian my buddy asked me to paint a while ago. Just to tablaletop quality, he has 199 more that he wants painted and this was just a miniature painted to establish a plan for the scheme and colors.

More shots from the rear ;)

He still needs some grass and I was thinking of adding some edge highlighting to take the paint a little further. Let me know what you think Teddy.

Here's a little song that's been on my mind lately. Enjoy!
