Finished! Khador Grolar

It's crunch time this month. Gencon is right around the corner and there are a few paint competitions I'd like to enter. My goal was to get this piece done by the end of June, and I did! Which was a relief as it keeps me right on schedule for the con. Enjoy!

I'll get back on schedule with the blog and have some WIP shots of the next entry in line next time. I just wanted to give that last post some air time as it was for a cause. At the time of writing this the piece has a few bids on it so I'll get to make a donation :)

For Sale! For charity!

I have to say life has been pretty good to me. Lately I've put a lot more focus on my painting "career", making youtube tutorials, instagramming, attempting to post blog entries every other day. All of that has been working out very well, almost as if the more I put into it the more I get out of it. Maybe I can use that attention to benefit more that just myself.  Recently I was made aware of a situation that a friend of a friend is in. Her name is Jenny and you can get the full story, and maybe donate here, skip a beer, or a coffee for one day. It's a sad situation and I wanted to donate. I feel like I've passed on other opportunities where I could have helped. As people we all do, sometimes you don't have the time or the resources. So, in the spirit of giving, I put this model up for auction with the proceeds going towards getting Jenny a lung transplant. A person's life is in the balance and I feel like I would regret not trying to help.

Thanks for reading and for the support.

Go to Ebay and add him to your collection today :)

WIP Khador Grolar, Part 2

My goal was to finish this project in one week. So far I'm right on track with today, hopefully, being the last.

Going back it time a little, here is how the body came together. I wanted it look well damaged.

The model came together nicely. I think the barrels of the machine guns on his wrist could use some more damage but I'll come back to it.

Today's focus is the banner and also the base. I haven't been worrying about the base too much because it will be covered in muck and snow.

Back to it!

Finished! Perturabo, Primarch of the Iron Warriors

A damn fine sculpt in a full metal jacket.

This time around it dawned on me to magnetize the display base so the model could be removed for gaming. Which was possible because the base was a wreck and no one would notice the seams ;)

Painted for a special dude I met by attending Adepticon for the last 5 years. Cheers Duncan, See you and the con!

WIP Khador Grolar

I took the first few steps on the Grolar this weekend. Hopefully I can move fast and get him done next week, gotta keep that brush moving. The first picture below is where I ended up after some airbrushing and sketching on the banner.

WIP Perturabo

The walking fortress himself Perturabo! It's been a challenge going the NMM route on this but it's worth the effort. This sculpt is one of my favorites Forgeworld/Gamesworkshop/whatever they call themselves have produced. It absolutely captures, in a sculpture, the artwork style of John Blanche. I can't say it any better than that. An absolute joy to bring to life.

Here's how it began.

Airbrush!

Paintbrush!

Money shot of that sweet wet pallet. I had to mix up a custom gray /blue to get it just right. Exile blue, Vallejo black and white.

Preppin and steppin, also a little preview of an upcoming project. I know it's hard to tell but the chunky components that make up the scenic base have been magnetized so Perturabo can be used in game as well. It finally dawned on me to magnetize those scenic bases after painting three Primarchs..Live and learn, slowly I guess.

Alright, Back to it! I have Empire soldiers to build and a Grolar to paint!

Finished! Hac Tao Hacker

Say that three times fast. Rounding out the more enforceful side of this Yu Jing force is the Hac Tao, hacker version. All in that poppin' cool mountain dew green I've grown to love. First though, a family photo.

I get a kick out of the "hacker poses" of Infinity. This one appears to be touching the lips of his enemy to convey a simple hushhhhh, before he cuts them to ribbons. Or flesh ribbons..like bacon.
