Getting back in the groove

I'm finally getting into the new groove of things out here. I've made my place in the studio and really enjoying my time there. Yesterday was spent airbrushing and assembling some personal projects I want to finish before this months valhalla on the 21 st. As well as getting some games in I'll be teaching some classes there. One of my main projects is another unit for my trollbloods Army, the sons of Bragg. These sculpts are phenominal.

I usually paint my trolls with just brushwork but this time I wanted to see how I could do with the airbrush.

Step one, grey a grey base coat.

In the second step I added a little white to the mix and added the highlights.

The third step was to add a rusted tint to the grey foundation.

The same mix was applied with more of the rusted tone.

Then a little chocolate brown was applied.

Then it was time to add the washes. First, the brown.

For the final step a wash of good ol badab black was layed down.

Can't wait to add the brushwork. For my parting shot here's a little work in progress by Mason from the assembly department.

Testing 1 2

Greetings, as the title suggests I'm testing a little something out. I'm always experimenting but this time I'm attempting to write a post from my phone. Just for grins, it might come in handy down the line.

So I've snapped a few pictures of current projects on my table as my subjects.

Its unfortunate I can't edit them in Photoshop but I think it will work to keep up on works in progress. Eventually I'll have a decent camera and light box.

Blood Angels Parking Lot

First off, apologies for the radio silence. Moving to Utah had me a little distracted. Now that I'm getting my groove back I wanted to show one of the projects I finished just before I left. It was for a very supportive friend I'm happy to know. (kiss kiss)

A whole slew of support for the Blood Angels.

Time intensive but fun none the less, at least the part where I could call it done. I need to buy a decent camera out here since the one I used was borrowed from brother John. I'll have more in store soon though so stay tuned!

Finished! Tartaros pattern Lameneter

This is the last mini I'll finish in Wisconsin. I didn't use my usual set up for the pics but they're decent enough. I'll be making more, I really went for this model. I know it's just a space marine but among the hundred varieties I guess everyone has one soft spot.

He's also up on Coolmini, yay!

Next up I should have some finished Vehicles for all the Blood Angel fans :)

WIP Blood Angels Heavy Support

The last few days have been spent finishing off a massive commission from a while back. It's only four tanks..See for yourself.

I like seeing these big projects come together but some days knowing you'll be painting silver for 4 hours isn't much to look forward to. My brain has a switch I can hit in these situations though.

Almost there and not a moment too soon. My upcoming move is approaching fast, four days away fast. I'll get some posts up in those few days so stay tuned.

Finished! Warhog and Doom Reavers

Finally got around to taking some pictures of some projects I entered at Gencon. Wooptie. First up is the Warhog aka Beebop in some circles.

He's swimming with the fishes on Coolmini

I'm still tinkering with the Mountian King but he should be along soon enough. Until then, enjoy some Doom Reavers for that ass.

You can have a playdate with them here

Deep Jammin'

I sat down with a friend last week for a more in-depth paint jamming. My impending move has my time limited so jam deep we did :)

First I wanted to start on paper. I'd recommend everyone give this a try if you haven't yet. It all transfers, just another angle to examine for the budding artist. So i drew up some skulls and we used the same techniques I use on miniatures to paint the skulls. Laying a base coat and then blending the shadows and highlights.

Hours of goofing around later we got to the miniatures.

Then, working from the same pallet we attempted to split the atom and make some science/magic.

Gotta love them yellow ones. That's as far as we got but more on him later. Maybe eventually I'll have the time to photograph my Gencon entries. Moving, packing, searching for a van and saying goodbyes has been hectic. I'm also having to go to random places to use the internet. Today has me in a steamy laundromat and behind me the world's greatest dad and his two kids with nothing but cookies to occupy their time in a stroller while he plays some dragon shit on line.

Back to the grind!
