Adepticon 2017

Another Adepticon in the books and it just keeps getting better every year. The Crystal Brush was top notch as well, so much inspiring work and it was clear to see the entirety of the entrants have been progressing at their craft. I was happy to be able to place among so many quality entries. Archaon brought me a sliver in the Large Monster/Vehicle category but he was a commission I picked up to fill the category. My real pride and joy was the unit of Orcs "The Jungle Boyz" which was painted as a personal project. I feel like I hit a personal best with them. After seeing the amazing work on display though, I have to do better than personal best and keep pushing myself.

I went into a bit of a hobby frenzy after returning from the con but I'll post more on that later, feeling very inspired.

My usual post Adepticon blog involves about 30 pictures of tables but having done that in the past I'm a little tired of it. I did manage to preserve just a few fuzzy memories.

My first time hanging in the painters lounge where I got to meet new people and contine  my bromance with Matt Dipietro.

Or the happy go lucky folks from Wreck age..Yet another bromance with another dude named Matt.

Adam, Atom, the cranium, sometimes when you're dumb, it's good to know smart people. This guy has been such a big help to me.

The saga hall! Had some buddies in there, these are their drinking weapons.

Slayer sword winner Jeff Bowden absolutely nailing victim of changes on Karaoke!

The dedicated work of Brendan at GMM studios. The second thing he said to me when I went for a hello was "I'm a hermit" ha, those results don't lie, the guy is dedicated to his craft.

There are a lot more moments I didn't capture but will always remember. This the around I wanted to take less pictures and be face to face with it all. I'm going to get to work now but I'll leave with a preview of a little fun project I made yesterday. My goal is to add more atmosphere and heavy metal attitude to my work. So here is the beginning of a piece I'm calling Deathcrush, fans of Mayhem will get the reference. It won't be a master piece but the goal is to have fun.

Gihugeic Mutants of a Toxic Future

Painted in an afternoon, a couple more pieces for the folks over at This is Not a Test. Two ordinarily less threatening monsters made horrifying by a dystopian vision of the future ala early Sci-fi cinema. Fun!

16 days until the Crystal Brush! Get ready y'all!

WIP: Red Scorpions

I didn't waste more than a day coming back from Adepticon. Following the event, I prepped up the next tabletop commission in line. Which is a nice release following all the high level painting done before the Crystal Brush.

Stay Tuned!

Adepticon 2016, through my eyes.

Yes my friends, it's that time of year again. Adepticon photo duuuuump! Occasionally, over the  weekend, I took pictures of what I was oogling at. Besides the amazing crystal brush contest this year, here's what I may or may not remember seeing. Enjoy!

You have to appreciate the view when you wind up on the 12th floor. Especially when it is a fleeting one. Saturday we saw random dowsings of sunlight and horizontal snow.

But the weather inside was fine :)

Breaking for lunch with Jenn :) "It's huge" the waitress grinned while we ordered. hah

All the necessary supplies and only one announcement made the white board all weekend..

All the way from Salt Lake City it's the one, the only, Holy Diver. In metal lies strength my brother. Glad he made the trip as it was by my encouragement when I lived in Utah. Always good to see you John, hope you come out again next year :)

These two, ha, thanks for strapping your gear on for the picture. I bet that didn't get old over the weekend, but damn, y'all did a great job!

See more from them here.

Next stop, Wappelville! Church on one side, brothel on the other. All divided by a set of tracks cutting through town.

Be sure to give Joey and everyone at World's End Publishing a visit.

I couldn't get enough of the tables, if you haven't noticed, and the suite where the infinity tournament was, did not disappoint.

Late night Infinity between Brother John and Hubba Hubba Huebner. (Triple H for short)

The swag bag was fully loaded this year, which didn't stop me from buying a bunch of shit. Here be the loot. Which will give you an idea of my personal painting schedule for the next few months hah.

The Crystal Brush this year saw some of the most impressive work I've seen in person. I'll post my entries in the following few days and the results. In the wake of it all, I'm more inspired than ever and there is never enough time with so many great people.
