Finished! Katakros, Mortarch of the Necropolis

Katakros and his attendant staff. My goal with this project was to choose a minimal amount of colors and see what I could created with a limited pallet. A few late nights later, this big guy was ready to survey the battlefield. The colors used (all from GW) were Screaming Skull, XV-88, Mephiston Red, Kantor Blue, black and white.

Finished! Beast of Nurgle!

Behold the beast! His name is..Hmm, bubbles? I'm still at the drawing board on that one but a beast of nurgle he is all the same. The word lolloping was used on the package to describe this monster and I like that. I also like teaching classes, in this case, Canada will be the last run of my monstrous creature class as I'm preparing another class to share with my fellow painting wizards. More info on that soon!

Finished! Castigators!

Lastly, a little fire support. These don't seem to be the best option in game but I'll give them a whirl. It's a brave new world in the Age of Sigmar, but maybe the only way to survive is with a magically charged explosive crossbow?

Finished! Sequitors!

Sequitors!
Mace wielding, power crystal having, very serious devotees of Sigmar. My army is growing steadily, I'm trying to add a unit each month. Currently building some cavalry but for now, here's the beef. Two units of Sequitors and again, I can see the value of having double the amount in my army as I play larger games. Where first there were 10, now there are 20. 20-40 Feral hogs and the only way to stop them is with more Sequitors on watch.

Finished! Evocators

Evocators are ready!
Now to do it again, as my army grows I realize the value of a second unit down the line. But so far my fledgling force has reached 1,000 points and I took the time to photograph them. Next post I'll have some Sequitors to share.

WIP Lord Maggot

I've decided not to take on any more commissions for a while. The decision was made in order to free up time for other pursuits such as teaching and recording more videos. I'm sure I'll come back to commissions at some point but it's also important not to live your life the same way day in and day out. That aside, I have a very special project as my send-off :)

I've titled it Lord Maggot, which seems fitting. I've been working on it a bit more slowly than other projects because I want it to be perfect. During the building process I kept getting new ideas and consequently having to order the right parts. What follows are some work in progress pictures of the process. Enjoy!

...And the thunder rolls.

First off, I'd like to apologize for that pun. I can resist everything but temptation. Puns are the big red button that I cantc not push.

It's been a while since I've painted an army for myself. It can be very fun coming up with a narrative and variations on a theme. With an escalation league happening at my local store I was inspired to gibe Age of Sigmar a try.

Originally I wanted to play Kharadron Overlords but after delving into the rules, they didn't play how I wanted them to. I wanted to be lord of the skies, shooting off the deck of my airships with mass firepower, but you can't. So it was back to the drawing broad, I chose the stormcast because it would give me some variety to work with. This way I could field an army that contained cavalry, wizards, and a dragon. Count me in!

I chose to create my own theme based on my Celtic lineage and the Blackhall Chamber was born. The first step was to get a 500 point list together, mainly some battle line troops. So I put together 10 sequitors, 3 castigators, and and evocator prime to play the part of my lord arcanum. I want to customise my models but don't have a lot of leftover bits yet, I also plan on fielding a mounted general as time goes on and the points value increases.

After assembly, I split them into smaller groups for painting.

At this point the sequitors are finished, just have to squeeze out the castigators and my wizard. Also, make some scenery to match my snow bases so I can better dominate the tabletop wan stay en vogue.

Finished! Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead.

This project was very intense at times, which probably explains the speedpainting projects I've turned my attention to in Nagash's wake. But always the time is worth it to see the end result. I'm very proud of this one, it's the first time I aimed for more of a monochromatic, atmospheric piece. By mixing a little blue into each color I was aiming to create more of a nighttime scene.

I'll follow this post up with some close ups, but for now enjoy the full body of Nagash.

Finished! Blightwinkle

Blightwinkle the Problematic and Ploppi to be precise, as named on stream. This is a special piece because it will be given away, along with 4 other items, to a lucky subscriber on my twitch channel. Twitch.tv/samsonarts. Painted up in 3 1/2 hours and I'm already building next month's giveaway. Fun!

Finished! Morathi the Shadow Queen

Kind of tricky to photograph but here she is in all her splendor! Done in an alternate scheme, the name escapes me at the moment but it's always a good move to deviate from the box art :)
