WIP Ravenwing Strikeforce Part 2

Well the Holidays provided their usual and much needed snag. This Christmas being made extra memorable by the presence of my new niece, Brinley. Congratulations Brother Father John, I love ya!

But as far as painting goes, I managed to get a solid base coat on the bases and paint the color silver for 4 hours. Painting the same color for hours on end is not the most motivating task. But, it's done :)

I would be a bit of a slumpy painter if all I had to show was the small amount of progress pictured above. So here's a preview of a piece I'm working on for myself. It has a lot of firsts for me in the modeling and painting aspects. Some days I feel like all of my artwork is just an experiment.

If I can finish both of these projects as this year ends, I'll be a happy man. Lots to look back on and much more to look forward to :)

WIP Ravenwing Strikeforce

All primed and ready :) Tomorrow I'll bring out the airbrush and bust a move. This should be a relatively quick job. One command squad, six bikes with an attack bike, one landspeeder, a Nephilim jetfighter, and the master of the Ravenwing himself Sammael. They'll be joined by a previous unit I painted for the same client, you can see them here

Up next is a chronological series of photos that I feel best represents my experience over the last couple days.

Tomorrow is a new day.

Finished! Space Hulk

Sorry I did that thing where I finish a project and neglect the photographs while I don't document my current projects..gotta stop doing that. Anyway, I'm proud to present the fruits of one man's labor, yellow and green fruits they are.

First up, the genestealer horde. There are 23 of them including the Brood Lord. So I thought a few en masse shot would do them justice.

And those loyal sons of the Emperor. Great miniatures and still fun the second time around. I painted a set of Space Hulk years ago when I started doing commissions. In fact, it was the fist commission I had. How's that for nostalgia? Works for me.

Maybe I'll paint my own set up someday. Wishful thinking hah

Space Hulk WIP Part 4!

Sorry for the lapse in updates. You can only post so many in-progress shots. So this should be the last time before I can present the finished project :) I slacked a little over the weekend as I celebrated my birthday. It's seems so long ago now that I started painting minis full, here's to more time served :)

So close I can taste the paint. The bitter tinge of wash, the sweet pinch of titanium white. I have tasted all the flavors and chortle with rapturous laughter to their...Yes, I'm 30 now, stick around and you will see what 10 more years of brushlicking imparts on the brain.

Space Hulk WIP Part 3

With a busy weekend behind me I got the terminators straight away. I'm going to wait until the whole project is finished to take pictures with the light box so it's going to be desk shots for a while. So until then here's a shot of the genestealer horde an inch from the finish line :)

And here they are, doing the back and forth dance so familiar to batch painting.

Space Hulk WIP part Two

Yesterday was all about the airbrush. Long hours of mixing and washing and spraying and trying not to inhale the whole mess. I've always wanted to paint my set of Space Hulk in a Lamentors theme and having the artistic freedom to choose, I thought I'd paint my dream version and then give it away never to be seen again. The bittersweet transfer of goods and services goes on..

Then it was time to lay down the basecoats and washes. I decided to tackle the genestealer half first.

Then I decided to take a break and enjoy a smoothie. It's the healthiest way to slam vodka this side of the Mississippi.

Next Up I'll have the finished Broodlord and co.

Space Hulk WIP

Yesterday I finished the trimming and figured out how the hell I was going to base the Terminators. Finally, after four hours of prep work, I can start painting this set. And what a beauty she is..

After all the trimming and scraping of Space Hulk you'd think I had enough. Well, I'm a sick bastard and couldn't put down the knife. One nine o clock cup of coffee later, I had this set of minis and their accompanying bases laying in front of me :)

Let the cold in

Yes little Wulfen, as the first snowfall remains frozen on the ground you can be sure winter is officially starting. Over the last cold dark week I've been feverishly working out one of many entries for next year's competitions. More on that later. Here's this weeks mission at moment zero.

Spaaaaaaaaaaaaace Huuuuuuuuuuulk!

I'll leave off with a parting shot from last weeks project as well as many projects. Productive people don't have clean workspaces :)

Finished! Warmaster Horus Lupercal

Hot off the brushes, Big Poppa Pump himself. Horus, what have you started?

I decided to take a slightly different tilt with his color scheme. Super fun to paint and I got to try some non metallic techniques I've been wanting to try. Here's the result after 12 hours of creative juices.

Rock the vote right Here.

P.s. this model is huge. Well, except for his head. He's about as tall as a dreadnought off his base. Such a big little traitorous son.

WIP Horus Lupercal

The traitor/hero himself and Much larger in person. I'm all giddy to get this one rolling so that's what I did.

Here he is after some time with the airbrush :)

And here he is today during day two.

I have many tricks planned for this one, more to come soon.

Finished! Imperial Knight

All hail the Omnissiah!..What?!

Lots of fun pumping my airbrush muscles on this one. I'm also continuing my use of toned blacks, cool vs hot etc. The blacks on this Knight have a dash of red to set off the dash of blue I put into the silver of the main frame. Pretty fancy stuff. I've also been a fan of toxic sludge pits lately. Just a fun place for one to be imposing.

Sneak a peek at Ebay while the auction is up. It ends soon!

Knighty Night Imperial Knight WIP

This model was assembled by my hammer pal Frank. We chill sometimes, talk fiction, and generally be nerds while I paint and he sketches :) Frank has an ailment that prevents him from detail painting these days but he was more than happy to assemble this kit, I understand why.

Once completed by Frankie I worked as a man possessed. Not sure what came over me but I worked for six hours straight that first day. Motivation for the motivation throne!

First, one must drop the base.

At this point I thought, "sure it's painted but what about my airbrush?"

I haven't had a chance to do a piece involving my airbrush and some heavy duty masking. Not in a while at least and not with my slightly more advanced brain.

I decided to create my own heraldry and from the get go wanted a grim reaper scheme. I wound up with the skull and scythe lighting and blood drop combo.

Since it's 40K why not some checkers? Make them look like a tablecloth at a picnic you say?
Okay, sure. hah, the tablecloth comparison was an afterthought.
