WIP: The Forest Witch

It adds some extra inspiration to a project knowing it will be not only a gaming piece, but also a birthday gift to a loving wife :) So here it is, the Saviour 40 Years miniature from Kingdom Death.

My first instinct was to create a painted backdrop depicting some sort of staiways to portals within a night time forest..I decided to use the same theme but pull the focus a little closer and have the figure passing from dark into light to represent the night and day theme but also the seasons.

I had the base together but it still needed some smaller elements to seem more alive. The smaller elements came in the form of some small mushrooms, a painter turtle, and a birds nest.

Finally, assembled and I can get some colors going :)

Stay tuned!

WIP: Tokens for Tyler

Adepticon is just around the corner folks :) This time of year always carrys a lot of deadlines for me. I'm always guaranteed to paint an army for the event along with other, soft score, related items like display boards etc. Not to mention, any projects I can finish in time for the Crystal Brush. A client of mine is playing in the upcoming Age of Sigmar tournament at Adepticon and in the tournament you are required to bring one messenger model, six influence markers, and one banner pole thing.

The banner pole and messenger model were pretty straight forward and after discussing it with Tyler we decided I'd carve out a hammer and lightning bolt icon to represent his Stormcast and High Elf force. Here is how I made one carving into six, if you too need some influence markers, enjoy!

The finished carving, glued to a base. I also sculpted a little something to break up the hammer from the lightning bolts.

Next, I made and Insta-mold copy.

Rub some putty in the print...

and shazaam, 5 copies! Ready for paint.

Moving right along :)

Finished! Ariadna Reinforcements

More badasses for Brother John's growing Ariadna force. All great sculpts but I think the personal favorite is obvious :)

I can't wait to watch them die at the hands of my Nomads which I'll post on in the future. My plan is to pick up some new units and inspiration at the upcoming Adepticon. Maybe a few new tricks too.

Stay tuned!

WIP Ariadna reinforcements

More boots on the ground for Brother John's growing force. Again keeping the colors dark and sticking to more of a SWAT team look with green lenses and scopes. All kinds of goodies plus a friggin' Werewolf!

I also had time to airbrush up a Bounty Hunter on a Bike, she's off to the side. Big plans for her but I'll get to that later.

Stay Tuned!

Tutorial: Making a tiny rose

While staring at a recent project, the idea came that something was missing. Deciding to go with every idea that came to me on this one, I went about making a wee tiny rose.

What you'll need:

Tinfoil
 Hobby Knife
Brass rod
Glue
Wire Clipper
Tweezers

Step one, cut a long pennant shape out of your tinfoil and glue it to a length of brass rod.

Step two, score the top half of the pennant with your trusty blade.

Step three, wrap that pennant, carefully, around the brass rod. When I wrapped it I pulled it in a downward spiral to make sure my "petals" were curling in a natural way.

Step four, I added a small ball of foil to the empty center of the rose and used my various tools to bend the petals to shape.

Step five, Paint it in blood! I also notice there were no leaves on the stem so I cut some teardrop shapes from my tinfoil and glued them in place.

This will be added to the top of my C.A.G.E.'s banner which will be popping up in the future.

Infinity City Day 2

Day two of the weekend and getting a lot further into the city. Really enjoying the opportunity to spray and mask and spray and mask larger areas :)

I wanted this scenery to reflect a more dirty, industrial area of the infinity universe. The idea was to stick with colors usually found on train cars.

Over the next few work days I'll grab a piece and tend to the details. Black lining, edge highlighting, and maybe even some graffitti if I'm feeling frisky. A half an hour a day for a week of so and they'll all be detailed out.

I also have to do something about the board we'll be playing on. For my place at least, these sheets of foamcore can be cut to size and painted. The excess pieces will provide some nice risers to add the landscape as well. Pro tip: Use every bit!

Stay tuned, the installment of  Ravenwing is up next!

Infinity City Day 1

Almost a year ago I scored some scenery from Mantic Games. The Sci-fi quadrant to be exact and it was a massive load of scenery, at a great price too. Enough to cover a 2 x 2 foot area. Brother John and I trimmed and assembled it over time while we were learning the game of Infinity. It's been great and we've been having a lot of fun with it but it doesn't look like a game until everything is painted. This the first batch and definitely not the last. I already want more Mantic kits and there is a need for some smaller elements that will come in the form of shipping crates and dumpsters.

It all started off with a ghost coat, for the city and bounty hunter as well :)

Finally, a proper chance to use some masking tape and stencils from Brush for Hire.

Coming together nicely so stay tuned, a little more detail and a little closer to complete next time.
