Wadder ye doin' wiv yeeer bits?!

This Saturday, in the spirit of Halloween, my local store is running a zombie hunting style game of 40k. We have no idea what we're up against, we only know to bring a troops choice of 150 points or less. So I decided I should whip up something for the zombies side for funzies.

Enter the Adepticon Swag Bag.

This year's attendees like many other years received a massive bag of goodies supplied by many of the vendors. Mr. Rod Baer of Spikey Bits (http://www.spikeybits.com/servlet/StoreFront) was generous enough to throw in some random mini bits bags, many many bags. So whadder ye doin wif yet bitz?!

I started by laying out the various pieces from the swag bag.

I believe I have all I'll need here to make a renegade zombie servitor. Yes, a renegade chaos zombie servitor mutant.

I made him a base from my own supplies. Pretty simple, some cork, guitar wire, plastic tubing, and a tile patterned sheet of plasticard.

Now that I had a full idea of what I wanted to do I set about filling in the blanks.

Now all he needed was to grow some arms. Or not, and idea was born.

The only thing left was to let my brush fly, I quickly painted him up. Very quickly. But he's not without his charms :)

I don't know why Blogger has cursed my pictures to show up all at once when you click on one. To see him in his full glory right click the picture and open it in a new tab.

Very fun to do in an afternoon painting jam. We'll see what next year's Adepticon brings :)

Finished! Janissa Stonetide

Here's a lady with a face only a troll could love. Lucky for her she's a troll too. I fell in love a bit when I painted her. A great mini from Privateer Press.

Right click this picture and open it in another tab to enlarge it ;)

Finished! Commissar Lord

Here's a recent commission I banged out in a day. Just around 5 hours time and Bam! He's off to the races. The reason it went so quickly is because I used a somewhat limited pallet. The clothing and armour was done using the same colors just with different saturation.

Right click this picture and open it in a new tab to view it in it's full glory.

I'd recommend this model to anyone. It paints up nicely and was easily painted when fully assembled.

WIP log

Yet another painting jam with my pal jake :) enjoy!

Jake as usual to our tea parties brought some in progress pieces to discuss. He's been working on a squad of plague marines steadily and after I donated a set of kneeling legs last time he brought along the result.

Jake has deeply felt the taint of chaos lately. He's also been modelling up a Chaos Lord from a yet to be determined renegade legion. I suggested the Red Corsairs.

Look closely at this guy, there are some interesting bits added into the mix.

And finally he brought a rough mock up of what he was planning to do with a massive Wyvren by Reaper. So far so good. I suggsted he turn it into a diorama. A little Bilding up of the front corner and you could fit the hero in. Valiantly defending his stash of vintage pewter Citadel models.

I was working on something that I've saved for another post mainly. But I did manage to do something I can show you lately. As you might know I've chosen to get into Warmachine/Hordes (Whoremachine?) lately and I chose the Trollbloods as my first warband. So far I've painted Madrak and a Diretroll Blitzer. Both of these won Gold Medals at the P3 contest during GenCon. So this kind of sets a standard for the rest of my army to come...Here are some in progess shots of my next addition, Janissa Stonetide. Enjoy!

Here she is bare and prepped. The base looks like it's covered in cocaine but it's baking soda. I somehow misplace a small bucket of dirt in my room (?) and needed something to fill in.

You can see the mess in my mind by examining the wet pallet.

And here she stands watch over the block, 2days ago when the sun still lived here.

Completed pictures coming soon! Oh Boy!

Finished! 4th edition Dark Eldar Haemonculus

I painted this little lady up a couple days ago. Once I started I couldn't stop, a very simple and fun model to paint :)

She's off to the wilds of E-bay:

I don't know why Blogspot has changed the way photos are displayed. You've probably noticed when you click on the picture it pops up in the same window and you can't enlarge it. If you right click the image and open it in a new tab you can see how it's actually supposed to be viewed. That's the old way they'd display the pics. I don't know the reason for the change but I highly dislike it. Now instead of posting all the pictures in one strip, like I used to, I have to cute them up in photoshop and post 4 times (or more) the pictures to even have them close to the size I want them to be seen at.

Rant over.

Happy Birthday!

Today marks a moment in history, the moment many men strive for only to have their reach fall short. A day that reminds us 99 is not 100 and a foot from the top is not the top...

On this day I have been running this blog for a year. Truly Epic, a year of internet access.

105 posts and 82 followers later.

So with that in mind I'm looking forward to another year of the same. I only hope I can make at least 106 posts and gain 83 more followers ;) Thanks to everyone who has commented and is following.

Business as usual today, I'd like to share the Demon Prince I've been working on  lately.

A very entertaining model to create.

You too can enjoy him all to yourself:

As I said before I've been packing my belongings lately and preparing for the moving process. I did however manage to complete the Demon Prince as well as start a project that's a bit of a "mood piece".

I saw this model from Wyrd Miniatures and was instantly impressed by the atmosphere it created.

We'll see when I get around to finishing her but I wanted to share her in her early stages while the project is fresh.

Thanks!

Nurgle Demon Prince WIP update

At the moment I've been painting away on this guy. My blogging has been slowed a bit because I'm in the process of moving.

Here are some pictures showing the final layer of sculpting.

I should have an update on him ready soon. So far so good :)

I'm planning on a color scheme similar to the one I did on Morphus recently.http://www.coolminiornot.com/289038?browseid=1505005

I'm going to try to photograph my Dark Eldar combat patrol tonight. It did very well on it's second test this weekend. I won overall champion by 1 point over Brother John. It's a bittersweet win because my painting helped bump my points up competitively. My Win Loss ration was pretty even, 2 wins, 2 losses, 1 tie. Granted the losses weren't by many points and the two games I won I won moximum points on. A few more tweaks and I think my list will be ready for Adepticon.

WIP Nurgle Demon Prince

I was happy to obtain a Demon Prince box recently from my buddy Kevin (http://myworld.ebay.com/teachermickeymouse/?_trksid=p4340.l2559). I like the box only because I can see some potential if it's modified. The kit itself looks a little bare to me, like the sculptor never went back and added that third layer to the piece.
So I've gone about adding a great amount of putty to the kit after I hacked and slashed it a bit. Mainly minor changes to the angles of his limbs.

Here he is after the first layer of sculpting.

Once this was dry I added a second layer with a little more detail.

That's as far as I've gotten on him so far. One or two more passes with the putty knife and he should be ready for some paint :)

Khador Battlegroup Finished!

This was a really fun kit to assemble and paint. I'm also happy with the results on Commander Sorscha's base too. Enough though, I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Here's the E-bay link:

Thanks for checking them out, next up I'll be sharing my completed Combat Patrol Army and some pics of my next E-Bay project.

Khador Battlegroup WIP part 2

I got to put some time in today on the Battlegroup. Here are the Warjacks after some basecoating.

Once I had the metals out of the way it was time for some fun. I mixed up a few shades to do the highlights by mixing Blood Red, Blazing Orange, and Skull white. The trouble with red is it either gets too orange or too pink when you start highlighting it. I was able to achieve a nice salmon color with the above mix.

Here they are with some brushwork :)

Commander Sorscha is coming right along with them.

My plan for tomorrow: Attend a pancake breakfast in my home town, then finish these guys off and send them to the wilds of E-Bay. We'll see what kind of majic I can conjure up. I'm confident I can accomplish tomorrow's goals. But tonight, I am finished.

Now it's off to the local Metal Show!

Dark Eldar Combat Partol WIP log update

I'm almost there and so is Oshcon.(http://www.oshcon.org/) It won't be quite the photo finish I had feared. A mere 6 crewman and a single sail are all that remain in my way.

I did a lot of finishing on my budding fleet yesterday :)
Here they are skimming past my paint box.

I would like to freehand something on the hulls of the vehicles but this will do for now. I'm thinking a grimacing alien skull on the hull of the Venom would be a nice touch. I should have time for that once I finish the Crew.

Morphus, Chaos Warlord Complete

You may remember a personal project I mentioned here before, Lord Morphus from Enigma Miniatures. First I have to say I fell in love with Enigma miniatures while painting this guy. They do an excellent job on their sculpts.

Second I'd like to say, WOOHOO! 100 Posts! I'll have been running this blog for a year on Oct. 23rd! So many memories she conjures, ahh the memories.

Here's Morphus around 15 hours of work later.

Submit your opinions here:

Start to finish this model was a joy to paint :)

Khador Battlegroup WIP

Brother John and I hung out the other day and I grabbed a Khador Battlegroup he got at Adepticon. These are the first Warmachine models I'll have painted, oh boy!

For Sorsha's base I added some clipped and melted pieces of clear plastic. I'll keep them masked off for most of the process. Also the bag with all of Sorscha's parts was missing her backpack, I didn't want to stop and call Privateer Press and then wait for a new piece so I converted one for her. I still have to call them though, my box of Fennblades is missing a set of arms. This doesn't look good for PP, I've opened 2 boxes of their plastics so far and both have been missing a part...

Just a moments detraction from painting my combat patrol ;) I'm happy to say I've finished the Wyches at this point, I'll have pictures once some more units are finished.

More on these Commies later.

Well the priest is all done. The Dark Eldar...nearly complete. Just some silver highlights and I'll snap some photos of them to share. Here's the end result of the Sanguinary Priest.
