WIP: Archaon the Everchosen Part 3

This time around I'm in the process of adding many many hours of brushwork to the Everchosen. Finally able to detail the focus areas of this monster :) Mainly the three heads and Archaon himself.

Before laying down any of the brass tones I basecoaed the areas with P3's Moldy Ocrhe. Looks bad at first but the following layers went on a lot cleaner.

Finally, it was time to put some detail into those three heads. Which finally felt like the project was moving forward at a good pace. I had to pick and choose which areas to paint and which areas to use as a grip. My oily human paws would rub away the paint with all the flipping and twisting I had to do to get at every area.

Finished! Wrath of Kings C.A.G.E.

This was one of my entries for this year's Crystal Brush, which was an incredible show this year. I have to say that every year the skill level seems to increase but this year was much more apparent. In the wake of such well known artists I'm just happy I could hold a candle to their work, this piece took Gold in the Fantasy Large category and if you follow this blog you know it was a labor of love. Often times I'm working with in a time limit because of the commission work I do. On this piece I was able to follow every idea of what was possible and try some new things.

Please show some support and go cast a vote on Coolminiornot.

Stay tuned, I'll be back with more progress on Archaon ;)

WIP: Archaon, the Everchosen Part 2

Above is Archaon after a few hours under the airbrush. Below you will find how he became that way. Enjoy!

One by one the heads were toned out and bagged up.

Then I had to commit to a color for the body. It had to be something neutral but I also wanted to break away from the scheme pictured on the box. I wound up with what I call "Godzilla green". Archaon got some attention as well.

At this point he's ready for some close up attention, more to come on that next time :)

WIP: Archaon, The Everchosen

That's right! One big ass dragon, three heads, and a buff dude with demon powers, covered in armor. The stuff legends are made of. But every legend needs a place to stand in the world so I'll start with the base.

I wanted to capture something cataclysmic, possibly biblical. The story of Samson comes to mind, towards the end of it
Something that would convey the power and size of Archaon descending to the temple of Sigmar. After seeing these pillars (pictured below) in the Secret Weapon booth at Adepticon, I decided I needed some for this piece. At first I placed on pillar in the front. The idea was to create a toppling effect but I decided it would block the view a little too much and moved it to the rear.

Here it is after some trial placements and debris organization.

"Your temples will sink and fall into the earth" is probably what Arcahon would say so I created a section of slate rocks to house an emerging stream of lava.

Then it was time for some smaller details. A few bones and some weapons discarded by the fear stricken mortals.

Today Archaon has been primed and will receive some airbrushing.

More to come so stay tuned!

Finished! Blood Angels Storm Ravens

Two big, red, metal birds, skimming the desolate wilderness to fight anyone who's different! It probably wouldn't be the same game if it was called peacehammer.

WIP: Blood Angel Storm Ravens

Preppin' and steppin' on a pair of twin ravens.

They'll be ready for war next time around so stay tuned. I'm getting a few of the smaller projects out of the way for next month, which will include a very detailed Trollblood force :) Not exactly sure what I'm going to grab off the shelf next. Projects have been coming and going at a fast pace lately and I know I have to work even harder as they come. Gotta paint the world!

Finished! More Scenery for the Infinity City

This little extension comes from the Reaper Miniatures Bones range. Which is super cheap. In case you missed it the first time around, here's where the Infinity city began.

I'll definitely be adding to the city in the near future. Infinity requires a good deal of scenery and I have more scenery from Mantic to be assembled. Things will keep rolling and soon, one day, I'll be able to unveil the whole enchilada, weathered and cooked to perfection.

Finished! Red Scorpions Detachment

All finished and ready for war. Twenty tactical marines, two Razorbacks, and one Captain.

Enjoy!

Next up I'll have a small personal project to keep my sanity between commissions. It's also for Infinity so stay tuned!
