WIP Horus Lupercal

The traitor/hero himself and Much larger in person. I'm all giddy to get this one rolling so that's what I did.

Here he is after some time with the airbrush :)

And here he is today during day two.

I have many tricks planned for this one, more to come soon.

Finished! Imperial Knight

All hail the Omnissiah!..What?!

Lots of fun pumping my airbrush muscles on this one. I'm also continuing my use of toned blacks, cool vs hot etc. The blacks on this Knight have a dash of red to set off the dash of blue I put into the silver of the main frame. Pretty fancy stuff. I've also been a fan of toxic sludge pits lately. Just a fun place for one to be imposing.

Sneak a peek at Ebay while the auction is up. It ends soon!

Knighty Night Imperial Knight WIP

This model was assembled by my hammer pal Frank. We chill sometimes, talk fiction, and generally be nerds while I paint and he sketches :) Frank has an ailment that prevents him from detail painting these days but he was more than happy to assemble this kit, I understand why.

Once completed by Frankie I worked as a man possessed. Not sure what came over me but I worked for six hours straight that first day. Motivation for the motivation throne!

First, one must drop the base.

At this point I thought, "sure it's painted but what about my airbrush?"

I haven't had a chance to do a piece involving my airbrush and some heavy duty masking. Not in a while at least and not with my slightly more advanced brain.

I decided to create my own heraldry and from the get go wanted a grim reaper scheme. I wound up with the skull and scythe lighting and blood drop combo.

Since it's 40K why not some checkers? Make them look like a tablecloth at a picnic you say?
Okay, sure. hah, the tablecloth comparison was an afterthought.

Finished! Galleon

I finally mustered up the courage to photograph my Galleon for the judgement of the internet. This is the piece that won me the Grandmaster title at this year's P3 contest at Gencon. Appartenly I have a violent way of celebrating. As one onlooker, having witnessed my win from afar, wasn't sure if I was happy or angry. Spiking your drink on the floor, doing air karate, and shouting what the fuck?! Holy Shit?! is a little misleading. But to those of the wulfen blood recognize the spasms of triumph.

I didn't bother chopping these images down in photoshop but check him out full size 'ere

Finished! Shokk Attack Gun

This bad boy rounds out the four Ork Characters I've been blogging about lately. Definitely a cooolmini, one of the few that still captures that second edition feeling. Splatta kannons, pulsa rokkits, squig catapults, telescopic legs, that kind of Orkiness.

Finshed! Ghazghul Mag Uruk Thraka

But with a little Deathskull flavor thrown in :) Hitting like a truck, here he comes, the big bad booty daddy of Space Orks.

If only the Orks could unite.

Finished! Deathskulls Ork Warboss

Ready to stop some 'umiez. The pain train keeps rolling, this time with the new Warboss in the caboose.

More Orks to come, stay tuned :)

Finished! Ork Painboy

The first of four Characters I was commissioned to paint :)

I'm not the biggest fan of GW's shift to digital sculpting. This model was still fun despite some of the weird bends that occur and the shitty face on the grot. Hah, overall a cool model, I just couldn't get over the grots face.

Stay tuned, more Oddboyz on the way.

Ork HQ's Step 2!

Here they are coming along after some basecoating. I'm trying to figure out which colors I was to go where and such. I would refer this to the "shit stage". The stage where your models have all the necessary colors in play but with little to no contrast which looks like, yup, shit.

Then I started shading in some of the recessed areas and getting the minis ready for some washes. I also gave the attack squig some heavy petting.

Here they sit today as of this morning.

I've also been doing a black and gray study with my buddy Tom. I grabbed a three pack of gobber drudges at Gencon and thought they would make fun a fast cool minis. We jammed on them last night between my Ork painting blocks. It was really fun attempting to work with a monochromatic scale and tinker with the values and saturation of it all. I'll have some better pictures of him up soon but until then, here he stands.

Once he has his close up I'm afraid his torture has only begun. I have more experiments to carry out on this mini >:}
